Contractors progress to phase two of concrete paving project
ABILENE – Beginning Saturday, Sept. 9, TxDOT contractors will close the intersection of Southwest Drive and South Clack Street for approximately four weeks. Thru-traffic will be detoured along South Clack Street and both turnarounds will be open during this time.
This project, which is expected to wrap up in early November, replaces current pavement in the intersection, underpass and turnarounds with a durable, long-lasting concrete surface. A wide load restriction is in place throughout the duration of the project.
During construction, drivers are encouraged to be watchful for workers and large, slow moving equipment, and to allow extra time to reach their destination if they must travel through the area. Detours will be in place throughout the project, but delays should be expected as crew members work to improve this intersection, which is one of the busiest in Abilene.
The $2.3 million project was awarded to O. Trevino Construction, LLC, of Roanoke. The current construction schedule includes construction work on Saturdays and is expected to take place during daytime hours only.
