Two sections of highways will have their guardrails upgraded this year according to plans approved in October by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

"We will be replacing the metal beam guard fences along sections of US 80 in Harrison County and on SH 155 in Upshur," said Paul Wong, area engineer for TxDOT in Marshall.

Sections of guardrails will be upgraded on US 80 from the Gregg County line to Marshall and on SH 155 from Big Sandy to US 271.

B & E Construction of Hallsville was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $951,648.

Work on the project should begin in January and take about 10 months to complete, Wong said.
