MIDLAND – A project to rehabilitate some Loop 250 frontage roads in Midland will begin roadway resurfacing this week.

There will be single lane closures during this stage of work. Ramp closures may also be needed at times.

The first stage of work will be on both frontage roads between Interstate 20 and Business Interstate 20. The existing surfaces will be milled out and resurfaced in order for the lanes to be opened up to traffic. Additional surface treatments will come later on in the process.

The overall project will rehabilitate about 6 miles of frontage roads in two sections. The first section is between the north frontage road of I-20 and Highway 191. The second section is between Midkiff Road and Business 349 (Big Spring Street). Work also will be done on the intersections under overpasses at Thomason and A Street.

Since late June, work has been continuing off the roadway to address drainage issues.

A width restriction of 11 feet will be in place during the project.

Motorists are asked to find alternate routes, if possible, while the work is being done. Delays are likely during construction. Motorists are reminded that state law requires them to obey any warning signs and/or flaggers encountered in the work zone.

The work will cause frustrations for many drivers. Poor driver behavior may result from that frustration. A lack of patience on the part of drivers merging will also cause crashes. We will have increased law enforcement presence at times in the work zones.

The project is scheduled to take seven more months to be completed.

Jones Brothers Dirt and Paving of Odessa won the project with a low bid of $5.8 million.
